How Does Netarsudil (0.02% w/v) Work?

Netarsudil is a Rho kinase inhibitor that works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork, the primary drainage pathway of the eye. This mechanism reduces intraocular pressure and protects the optic nerve from damage caused by elevated IOP.

How to Use Netarsudil (0.02% w/v)

• Dosage: Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening or as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Administration:
  • Wash your hands before use.
  • Tilt your head back slightly and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  • Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it and gently squeeze out one drop.
  • Close your eyes for 1–2 minutes and press your finger gently on the corner of your eye near the nose to prevent drainage.
• Avoid Contamination: Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye, hands, or any other surface.
• Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Netarsudil (0.02% w/v) include mild redness or irritation in the eye, pain or discomfort upon application, blurred vision, and tearing or dryness.
Rare but serious side effects include severe allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, signs of an eye infection (e.g., discharge, swelling, or redness), and persistent eye pain or vision changes.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or persistent side effects.

Drug Interactions

Netarsudil (0.02% w/v) may interact with other ophthalmic solutions or medications. If using multiple eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are using.

Storage

Store Netarsudil (0.02% w/v) at a temperature of 2–8°C (36–46°F) before opening. After opening, it may be stored at room temperature, between 20–25°C (68–77°F), for up to 6 weeks. Keep the bottle tightly closed and away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. Ensure the medication is out of reach of children and pets. Dispose of unused or expired solution responsibly, following local waste disposal guidelines.
