Nepafenac 0.1% Uses

  • Reducing pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery.
  • Treating postoperative eye inflammation and preventing macular edema associated with cataract surgery in diabetic patients.

How Does Nepafenac 0.1% Work

Nepafenac is a prodrug that converts into its active form, amfenac, upon penetration into ocular tissues. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever. By reducing the levels of prostaglandins, Nepafenac helps to relieve post-surgical pain and decrease inflammation.

How to Use Nepafenac 0.1%

  • Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure the medication is properly mixed.
  • Apply one drop of Nepafenac 0.1% into the affected eye(s) three times daily starting one day prior to cataract surgery, continuing on the day of surgery, and through the first two weeks post-operation.
  • To apply the eye drops, tilt your head back, look up, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place the drop directly into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Do not blink or rub the eye.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
