Montelukast 10mg Uses
Montelukast 10mg is used to:
- Prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as one year old.
- Relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) and perennial allergies such as sneezing, stuffy nose, or itchy, watery eyes.
- Prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs) in people 15 years of age and older.
It is not used to treat an acute asthma attack.

Montelukast works by blocking leukotrienes, chemicals in the body that are released as part of the allergic response. These chemicals cause swelling in the lungs and tightening of the muscles around the airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. How to Use Montelukast 10mg
Montelukast 10mg is usually taken once a day in the evening, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not chewed. If you are using it to prevent breathing difficulties during exercise, take your dose at least 2 hours before exercising, and do not take another dose for at least 24 hours. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, as Montelukast can interact with other drugs including phenobarbital and rifampin, which can reduce the effectiveness of Montelukast.
