Indications
Irritable bowel syndrome
Generic Zelnorm is indicated to treat women who have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and who have constipation as their main bowel problem. IBS is a disorder of the intestines that causes constipation, diarrhea, or both. Gas, bloating and stomach pain may also be present. Tegaserod (generic Zelnorm) helps to relieve the symptoms of stomach pain, bloating and constipation; it is not a cure. Tegaserod may also be used for relief of chronic constipation in females <= 65 years of age.
Generic for Zelnorm Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Zelnorm is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Zelnorm should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
diarrhea or often have diarrhea gallbladder disease heart disease or a history of a heart attack kidney disease liver disease, like cirrhosis rectal bleeding stomach or intestinal disease

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Zelnorm for IBS with constipation is 6 mg taken twice daily orally before meals for 4 to 6 weeks. For those women who respond to therapy at 4-6 weeks, an additional 4-6 week course can be considered.
Generic for Zelnorm Adverse Effects
Some of the most serious Generic Zelnorm side Effects include difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, hives, blood in the stool, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
