Generic Uni-dur is indicated to prevent and treat symptoms of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It relieves cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and troubled breathing. Theophylline (Generic Uniphyl) works by opening up the bronchial tubes (air passages of the lungs) and increasing the flow of air through them.

If found not effective, the doctor will gradually increase the dose up to a maximum of 600 milligrams per day.
