Generic Topamax is effective in helping to control seizures (convulsions) in adults or children with various forms of epilepsy. Generic Topamax(Topiramate) may also be prescribed for other conditions, such as prevention of migraine headaches.

Generic Topamax is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or any component of this formulation.
Generic Topamax should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Diarrhea
Fatty diet
Kidney disease
Lung problems
Status epilepticus
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Topamax. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Anticholinergics
Acetazolamide

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Topamax for seizures (convulsions) is 50 milligrams once daily during the first week. The daily dosage is then increased each week until, by the eighth week, the patient is taking 200 milligrams twice a day.

Topiramate has not been studied in pregnant women. Although there is no specific information comparing the use of topiramate in children with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems in children than it does in adults. This medicine is not approved

In studies done to date that have included adults older than 60 years of age, topiramate has not been shown to cause different side effects or problems in older people than it does in younger adults.
