Indications
Blood Clot
Generic Ticlid is indicated for the prevention of blood clots. Generic Ticlid (Ticlopidine) helps to prevent strokes in patients who have already had a stroke, or those who are at high risk of having a stroke. However, ticlopidine should not used in patients who can take aspirin to prevent a stroke. Ticlid is also sometimes used to prevent a heart attack in patients who have already had unstable chest pain or a heart attack.
Generic for Ticlid Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Ticlid is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or any component of this formulation.
Generic Ticlid should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Blood clotting problems
Liver disease
Stomach ulcers
Blood disease
Kidney disease
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Ticlid. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Anticoagulants
Aspirin
Carbenicillin by injection
Clopidogrel
Dipyridamole

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Ticlid for Stroke is 250 mg bid taken with food.
Generic for Ticlid Adverse Effects
Some of the most serious Generic Ticlid side Effects include low blood counts - ticlid may decrease the number of white blood cells and/or platelets, signs of infection - fever or chills, cough, sore throat and signs of decreased platelets or bleeding - bruising.

Generic for Ticlid and Pregnancy
Studies with ticlopidine have not been done in pregnant women. This medicine did not cause birth defects in animal studies. However, it caused other unwanted effects in animal studies when it was given in amounts that were large enough to cause harmful effects in the mother.
Generic for Ticlid and Breastfeeding
It is not known whether ticlopidine passes into the breast milk.

There is no specific information comparing use of ticlopidine in children with use in other age groups.
