Treat atopic dermatitis
Generic Protopic (Tacrolimus) ointment is indicated to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, a skin condition where there is itching, redness and inflammation, much like an allergic reaction. Generic Protopic helps to suppress these symptoms, which are a reaction caused by the body's immune system. It can be used for short-term or long-term intermittent treatment. It is often used when other types of treatment are not working or not tolerated by the patient.
Generic Protopic Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Protopic is contraindicated in patients, with a prior history of hypersensitivity to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drug or any component of this formulation.
Patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions should not take generic Protopic.
• Cold sores or shingles
• Netherton's syndrome
• Receiving any form of light therapy (phototherapy, UVA, or UVB) to your skin
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Protopic. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking the following.
• Alcoholic beverages or medications containing high percentages of alcohol.
Generic Protopic and Pregnancy
Do not use Protopic if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. The effect of Generic Protopic in pregnant women has not been adequately studied.
Generic Protopic and Breast-feeding
Generic Protopic applied as a topical ointment may pass into the breast milk, and may cause unwanted effects in nursing babies. Do not use Protopic without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Generic Protopic and Pediatric
Generic Protopic should not be used in children under 2 years of age. In case of children 2 to 15 years of age, only the lower concentration 0.03% ointment should be used.
Generic Protopic and Geriatric
The safety and effectiveness of Generic Protopic in geriatric patients have not been adequately established.
