Generic Pravachol is indicated as an adjunct to diet changes to reduce the amount of Cholesterol and certain fatty substances in the blood. Buildup of cholesterol may lead to decreased blood flow and, therefore the oxygen supply to the heart, brain and other parts of the body. Pravastatin (Generic Pravachol) works by clearing the harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL)cholesterol out of the blood. It also limits the body's ability to form new LDL cholesterol.
