Generic Periostat is indicated to treat bacterial infections, including pneumonia, lyme disease, acne, venereal (sexually transmitted) diseases, and inhalational anthrax (after exposure). Doxycycline (Generic Periostat) is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. It works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria.

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Periostat for Bacterial Infections is 200 milligrams on the first day of treatment (100 milligrams every 12 hours) followed by a maintenance dose of 100 milligrams per day. The maintenance dose may be taken as a single dose or as 50 milligrams every 12 hours.Your doctor may prescribe 100 milligrams every 12 hours for severe infections such as chronic urinary tract infection.

Some of the most serious Generic Periostat side Effects include dark yellow or brown urine, difficulty breathing, increased sensitivity to the sun or ultraviolet light, headache, itching in the rectal or genital area, pain on swallowing, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth,stomach pain or cramps and skin rash.
