Generic Periactin is indicated to provide relief of seasonal and nonseasonal allergy symptoms such as watery and itchy eyes, runny nose and sneezing. Generic Periactin belongs to the family of antihistamine, blocks the effects of the naturally occuring chemical histamine in your body.
Generic for Periactin Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Periactin is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past. Patients with no angle-closure glaucoma, patients predisposed to urinary retention, and in patients with stenosing peptic ulcer or pyloroduodenal obstruction, symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck obstruction, this drug is contraindicated.
Generic Periactin should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye
a stomach ulcer
an enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating
an overactive thyroid
hypertension or any type of heart problems; or asthma

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Periactin for Allergies is 4 milligrams (1 tablet) 3 times daily. Dosage may range from 4 to 20 milligrams a day, but most people will take between 12 and 16 milligrams.

Some of the most serious Generic Periactin side Effects include agitation, nervousness, excitability, not able to sleep (these are more likely in children), blurred vision, dizziness or fainting spells, irregular heartbeat, palpitations, or chest pain and seizures (convulsions).
