Generic Norvir is an antiviral drug called a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor or NNRTI. Generic Ritonavir is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Generic Norvir may reduce the amount of HIV in the blood and increase the number of CD4 cells (T-cells) in the blood. Generic Norvir is used in combination with other drugs to treat the HIV virus. Ritonavir will not cure or prevent HIV infection or AIDS.
Generic for Norvir Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Norvir is contraindicated in patients, with a prior history of hypersensitivity to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drug or any component of this formulation.
Generic Norvir should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
- diabetes mellitus or high blood sugar - hemophilia - high cholesterol levels - high triglyceride levels - liver disease, including hepatitis - an unusual or allergic reaction to ritonavir, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Norvir. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.

Generic for Norvir Dosage
The following information just highlights the general average dosage of GenericNorvir The usual recommended dosage of Generic Norvir for hypertension is 100 milligrams a day taken in 1 or 2 doses, whether taken alone or with a diuretic. The initial dosage of Norvir ranges from 50 to 100 milligrams once a day. The doctor may gradually increase the dosage up to 400 milligrams a day.

Some of the most serious Generic Norvir side Effects include anxiety, cold, tingling, or numb hands or feet, difficulty breathing, wheezing, dizziness or fainting spells, increase in the amount of urine passed, increased thirst, irregular heartbeat and skin rash.

It is not known whether Generic Norvir passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended in AIDS patients because of the risk of passing the AIDS virus on to the nursing infant and the possibility of serious adverse reactions in nursing infants.
