Indications
Generic Niaspan is indicated with diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood.Generic Niacin is also used to prevent and treat pellagra (niacin deficiency), a disease caused by inadequate diet and other medical problems. Generic Niaspan is a B-complex vitamin.
Generic for Niaspan Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Niaspan is contraindicated in patients, with a prior history of hypersensitivity to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drug or any component of this formulation.
Generic Niaspan should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
heart disease
kidney disease
severe low blood pressure
gallbladder disease
a history of jaundice
diabetes
muscle pain or disease
glaucoma or
gout.

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Niaspan for hypertension is 100 milligrams a day taken in 1 or 2 doses, whether taken alone or with a diuretic. The initial dosage of Niaspan ranges from 50 to 100 milligrams once a day. The doctor may gradually increase the dosage up to 400 milligrams a day.

Some of the most serious Generic Niaspan side Effects include anxiety, cold, tingling, or numb hands or feet, difficulty breathing, wheezing, dizziness or fainting spells, increase in the amount of urine passed, increased thirst, irregular heartbeat and skin rash.
