It contains two drugs commonly used to lower blood sugar, glipizide (glucotrol) and metformin (glucophage). Generic Metaglip replaces the need to take these two drugs separately and stimulates your own body to make more insulin.

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Metaglip for type 2 diabetes mellitus is 5 milligrams taken before breakfast. Depending upon blood glucose response, the doctor may increase the initial dose in increments of 2.5 to 5 milligrams.

Some of the most serious Generic Metaglip side Effects include hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) which can cause symptoms such as anxiety or nervousness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, hunger, pale skin, nausea, fatigue, perspiration, headache, palpitations,breathing difficulties, severe skin reactions or excessive phlegm, fever, chills, sore throat, skin rash and redness.
