Indications

Generic Metaglip is indicated to control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. It contains two drugs commonly used to lower blood sugar, glipizide (glucotrol) and metformin (glucophage). Generic Metaglip replaces the need to take these two drugs separately and stimulates your own body to make more insulin.

Generic Metaglip is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Metaglip should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.

kidney disease
liver disease
polycystic ovaries
serious infection or injury
stroke
thyroid disease
type I diabetes

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Metaglip for type 2 diabetes mellitus is 5 milligrams taken before breakfast. Depending upon blood glucose response, the doctor may increase the initial dose in increments of 2.5 to 5 milligrams

Some of the most serious Generic Metaglip side Effects include hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) which can cause symptoms such as anxiety or nervousness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, hunger, pale skin, nausea, fatigue, perspiration, headache, palpitations,breathing difficulties, severe skin reactions or excessive phlegm, fever, chills, sore throat, skin rash and redness.
