Generic Levaquin is indicated for eliminating bacteria that causes infections. Levofloxacin (Generic Levaquin) is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Levofloxacin is an antibiotic that stops multiplication of bacteria by preventing the reproduction and repair of their genetic material (DNA).

Generic Levaquin is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Levaquin should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Kidney disease
Seizure disorder
Heart condition known as prolongation of the QT interval
Have a slow heart rate that is considered a medical condition
Have low levels of potassium in your blood
Have a heart rhythm disturbance.

Theophylline
Warfarin
Insulin or an oral diabetes medication
A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Levaquin for Respiratory and uncomplicated skin infections is 500 milligrams once a day. For Complicated skin infections, the dosage is 750 milligrams once a day and for Kidney and urinary infections, it is 250 milligrams once a day.

Some of the most serious Generic Levaquin side Effects include confusion, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, palpitations or chest pain, joint, muscle or tendon pain nightmares, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth and seizures.
