Generic Lamictal is indicated to control partial seizures (convulsions) in adults and children with epilepsy. Lamotrigine (Generic Lamictal) is also used in adults and children who have generalized (major) seizures (convulsions) due to a special condition named Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Generic Lamictal is believed to affect chemicals in the brain involved in seizures and in bipolar disorder.

Generic Lamictal is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.

Usual recommended dosage of Generic Lamictal for seizures (convulsions) is one 50-milligram dose per day for 2 weeks, then two 50-milligram doses per day, for 2 weeks. After that, the doctor recommend a total of 300 milligrams to 500 milligrams a day, divided into 2 doses.

Some of the most serious Generic Lamictal side Effects include fever, painful sores in the mouth, eyes, or nose, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth, skin rash of any type, itching and swelling of the face, lips or tongue.
