Hytrin lowers, but does not cure, high blood pressure. Hytrin works by relaxing the blood vessels. Hytrin is sometimes used for prostate problems.

Hytrin Contraindications and Drug Interactions

Hytrin is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or any component of this formulation.
Hytrin should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.

Angina (chest pain)
Heart disease
Kidney disease

Hytrin Dosage

The usual recommended dosage of Hytrin for hypertension is 1 mg taken at bedtime for the first time, then, 1 to 5 mg once a day.

Hytrin Adverse Effects

Some of the most serious Hytrin side Effects include blurred vision, fainting spells, lightheadedness, fast or irregular heartbeat, palpitations or chest pain and swelling of the legs and ankles.

Hytrin and Pregnancy

Studies have not been done in humans. Studies in animals given many times the highest recommended human dose have not shown that Hytrin causes birth defects. However, these studies have shown a decrease in successful pregnancies.

It is not known whether Hytrin passes into breast milk. Although most medicines pass into breast milk in small amounts, many of them may be used safely while breast-feeding. Mothers who are taking this medicine and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor.

Hytrin and Pediatric

Studies on this medicine have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of Hytrin in children with use in other age groups.

Hytrin and Geriatric

Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting (especially when getting up from a lying or sitting position) may be more likely to occur in the elderly, who are more sensitive to the effects of Hytrin.
