Generic Ziac is indicated to treat high blood pressure. Generic Ziac is in a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Bisoprolol is used to lower blood pressure, lower heart rate, reduce angina (chest pain), and reduce the risk of recurrent heart attacks. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It helps to lower your blood pressure and decrease edema (swelling) by increasing the amount of salt and water lost while urinating.

Generic Ziac is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or any component of this formulation.
Generic Ziac should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.

- Barbiturate sedatives such as Seconal and Nembutal
- Cholesterol-lowering drugs such as Colestid and Questran
- Clonidine (Catapres)
- Diabetes drugs (oral)
- Disopyramide (Norpace) and similar drugs used to treat irregular heartbeat.
- Epinephrine (EpiPen)
- Guanethidine (Ismelin)
- Insulin
- Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
- Muscle relaxants such as tubocurarine
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, Motrin, or Tylenol
- Norepinephrine
- Painkillers such as codeine or morphine
- Reserpine
- Rifampin (Rifadin)
- Steroids such as prednisone
Generic for Ziac Dosage
The usual recommended dosage of Generic Ziac to control high blood pressure is 2.5 milligrams of bisoprolol with 6.25 milligrams of hydrochlorothiazide once a day. If this dose is ineffective, the dose may be increased every 14 days up to a maximum of 20 milligrams bisoprolol/12.5 milligrams hydrochlorothiazide once a day.
