Trazodone works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.
Generic for Desyrel Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Desyrel is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Desyrel. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following
- Digoxin

- MAO inhibitors

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Desyrel for depression is 150 mg/day in divided doses. The dose may be increased by 50 mg/day every three to four days. The maximum dose for outpatients usually should not exceed 400 mg/day in divided doses.
