Indications
Human immunodeficiency virus
Generic Combivir is indicated in combination with other drugs, to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The antiviral combination Lamivudine and Zidovudine will not cure or prevent HIV infection or AIDS. The amount of HIV virus in the blood is called "viral load." Combivir® can reduce the viral load, especially when combined with another anti-HIV drug.
Generic for Combivir Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Combivir is contraindicated in patients, with a prior history of hypersensitivity to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drug or any component of this formulation.
Generic Combivir should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
- Dental problems
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Pancreatitis
- Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
- An unusual or allergic reaction to lamivudine, zidovudine, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Combivir. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
- Atovaquone
- Fluconazole
- Probenecid
- Pancreatitis
- Valproic acid
- Zalcitabine, ddc
Generic for Combivir Dosage
Generic Combivir may be administered either at a starting dose of 4 mg as a single daily dose or divided and administered in the morning and evening. For patients who respond inadequately following 8 to 12 weeks of treatment, as determined by reduction in FPG, the dose may be increased to 8 mg daily.
Generic for Combivir Adverse Effects
Some of the most serious Generic Combivir side Effects include drowsiness, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rapid gain in weight, skin rash or hives, slow heartbeat, tremors or shakiness, unusual tiredness or weakness or swelling of the hands, legs, and/or feet.
Generic for Combivir and Pregnancy
Do not take Combivir if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. The effect of Generic Combivir in pregnant women has not been adequately studied.
Generic for Combivir and Breastfeeding
It is not known whether Generic Combivir passes into breast milk. Do not take Combivir without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Generic for Combivir and Pediatric
It is recommended to talk to your doctor before using Generic Combvir for pediatric patients.
Generic for Combivir and Geriatric
The safety and effectiveness of Generic Combivir in geriatric patients have not been adequately established.
