Generic Cardura is indicated to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. Doxazosin (Generic Cardura) relaxes and dilates (expands) blood vessels resulting in lowered blood pressure. It also treats symptoms of an enlarged prostate which include difficulty urinating, painful urination, urinary frequency and urgency.
Generic for Cardura Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Cardura is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Cardura should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Liver or
Kidney disease
Low blood pressure
Allergies
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Cardura. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Antiinflammatory drugs
dopamine
female hormones, including contraceptive or birth control pills
medicines for colds and breathing difficulties

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Cardura for hypertension is 1 mg given once daily. Depending on the individual patient's standing blood pressure response (based on measurements taken at 2-6 hours post-dose and 24 hours post-dose), dosage may then be increased to 2 mg and thereafter if necessary to 4 mg, 8 mg and 16 mg to achieve the desired reduction in blood pressure.

fainting spells, numbness in hands or feet, palpitations or pounding heart, irregular heartbeat, swelling of the legs or ankles and difficulty breathing.
