Generic Capoten is indicated to treat high blood pressure and to relieve symptoms of congestive heart failure. Captopril (Generic Capoten) is in a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). It works by preventing a chemical in your blood called angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form that increases salt and water retention in your body. Generic Capoten also enhances blood flow throughout your blood vessels.
Generic for Capoten Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Capoten is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Capoten should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Kidney disease Liver disease Diabetes Scleroderma or lupus any type of heart disease or have had a stroke
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Capoten. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Salt substitutes Potassium supplements Diuretics pills Nitrates Lithium Digoixin Aspirin or indomethacin.
Generic for Capoten Dosage
The following information just highlights the general average dosage of GenericCapoten The usual recommended dosage of Generic Capoten for hypertension is 25 mg bid or tid. If satisfactory reduction of blood pressure has not been achieved after one or two weeks, the dose may be increased to 50 mg bid or tid.

The safety and effectiveness of Generic Capoten in pediatric patients have not been established.
Generic for Capoten and Geriatric
Generic Capoten is known to be substantially excreted by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions to this dug may be greater in patients with impaired renal function. Because elderly patients are more likely to have decreased renal function, care should be taken in dose selection, and it may be useful to monitor renal function.
