Indications
Bronchial spasms
Generic Brethine is a bronchodilator (a medication that opens the bronchial tubes) prescribed for the prevention and relief of bronchial spasms in asthma. Terbutaline (Generic Brethine) dilates the air passages in the lungs, helps the muscles to relax thereby resulting in an increase of the diameter of the air passage. This in turn allows more air to flow in and out of the lungs during breathing.
Generic for Brethine Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Brethine is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Brethine should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment conditions.
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Overactive thyroid gland
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Brethine. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Antidepressant drugs known as MAO inhibitors
Beta blockers
Diuretics
Other bronchodilators
Tricyclic antidepressant drugs

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Brethine for Asthma is 0.25 mg injected into the lateral deltoid area. If significant clinical improvement does not occur within 15-30 minutes, a second dose of 0.25 mg may be administered. If the patient then fails to respond within another 15-30 minutes, other therapeutic measures should be considered. The total dose within 4 hours should not exceed 0.5 mg.

Some of the most serious Generic Brethine side Effects include chest pain, fast heartbeat, irregular heartbeat or palpitations, difficulty breathing, wheezing, dizziness, lightheadedness, muscle cramps, seizures (convulsions), skin rash, hives and swelling of the face.
