Mupirocin (Bactroban) is indicated for the treatment of impetigo or skin infections.This drug being an antibiotic prevents bacteria from growing on your skin.

Bactroban Contraindications and Drug Interactions

Bactroban is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Bactroban should not be taken by patients who have a large open wound Bactroban contains polyethylene glycol, which may cause damage to your kidneys, if absorbed through your skin.

There are a number of other topical medications that may change the way your skin absorbs Bactroban. It is better to avoid using other products on the same area at the same time unless directed to do by your doctor.

Bactroban Dosage

The usual recommended dosage of Bactroban for Skin infections is approximately one-half of the ointment from the single-use tube should be applied into one nostril and the other half into the other nostril twice daily (morning and evening) for 5 days.

After application, the nostrils should be closed by pressing together and releasing the sides of the nose repetitively for approximately 1 minute. This will spread the ointment throughout the nares.

The single-use 1.0 gram tube will deliver a total of approximately 0.5 grams of the ointment (approximately 0.25 grams/nostril).

Bactroban Adverse Effects

Some of the most serious BACTROBAN side Effects include skin rash, redness, continued swelling, burning, itching, stinging, or pain.

Bactroban and Pregnancy
