Generic Aygestin is used as a birth-control pill or a hormone treatment, depending on the drug prescribed. Norethindrone (Generic Aygestin) works like the natural hormone progesteone which inhibit the secretion of pituitary gonadotropins, which, in turn, prevent follicular maturation and ovulation. It also helps to treat an irregular menstrual cycle, lack of menstrual periods or abnormal uterine bleeding which are caused by a hormonal imbalance.

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Aygestin for Amenorrhea is 2.5 to 10 mg given daily for 5 to 10 days during the second half of the theoretical menstrual cycle to produce an optimum secretory transformation of an endometrium that has been adequately primed with either endogenous or exogenous estrogen.
