Indications
Diabetes mellitus (type II diabetes))
Generic Avandia is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type II diabetes). Type II diabetes is not due to the lack of insulin, rather it is the inefficiency of the body to make proper use of it. Rosiglitazone or Generic Avandia initially works by decreasing sugar production and then helps the body to efficiently use the available insulin. However, it does not increase the actual amount of insulin in circulation. Avandia can be used alone or in conjunction with metformin (Glucophage) or a member of the sulfonylurea class of diabetes drugs (Diabinese, Micronase, Orinase)

Generic Avandia is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.

Generic Avandia may be administered either at a starting dose of 4 mg as a single daily dose or divided and administered in the morning and evening. For patients who respond inadequately following 8 to 12 weeks of treatment, as determined by reduction in FPG, the dose may be increased to 8 mg daily.

Some of the most serious Generic Avandia side Effects include drowsiness, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rapid gain in weight, skin rash or hives, slow heartbeat, tremors or shakiness, unusual tiredness or weakness or swelling of the hands, legs, and/or feet.

There are no adequate and well controlled studies to indicate the safety and effectiveness of Generic Avandia in pregnant woman. Avandia should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

It is not known whether Generic Avandia passes into human milk. If you are breast feeding consult with your doctor before taking this medication.

The safety and effectiveness of Generic Avandia in pediatric patients have not been established.

Clinical studies do not indicate any overall differences in the safety and effectiveness of Generic Avandia in geriatric patients aged 65 and above.
