Generic Asendin is indicated for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. Asendin relieves the symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, worthlessness, or guilt, or changes in appetite, tiredness, insomnia, thoughts of death or suicide. Amoxapine works by increasing the chemicals in the brain.
Generic for Asendin Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Asendin is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Asendin. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Anticholinergic
Barbiturates
Cimetidine
Other CNS depressants
Generic for Asendin Dosage

The usual recommended dosage of Generic Amoxapine may vary from one patient to another. Usual effective dosage is 200 to 300 mg daily. Three weeks constitutes adequate period of trial, providing dosage has reached 300 mg daily (or lower level of tolerance) for at least two weeks. If no response is seen at 300 mg dosage may be increased, depending upon tolerance, up to 400 mg daily.

Some of the most serious Generic Asendin side Effects include pale skin, seizures (convulsions), skin rash or itching (hives), swelling or tenderness of breasts or testicles, unusual and uncontrollable tongue and chewing movements, smacking lips or puffing cheeks, uncontrollable muscle spasms in the face, hands, arms, or legs and
yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Generic for Asendin and Pregnancy
Studies have not been done in pregnant women. However some reports indicate that the newborns suffer from muscle spasms and heart, breathing and urinary problems when their mothers had taken trycyclic antidepressants before delivery.
Generic for Asendin and Breastfeeding
Amoxapine passes into human milk and should not be taken while breast feeding. It is found that antidepressant such as Generic Asendin cause drowsiness in the nursing baby.
Generic for Asendin and Pediatric
Children may be sensitive to the effects of Trihexyphenidyl, which may increase the chance of side effects during treatment. Hence caution need to be exercised before administering Generic Asendin in pediatric patients.
Generic for Asendin and Geriatric
Geriatric patients were found to be more sensitive to the effects of Generic Asendin . Agitation, confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, memory loss and mental changes are more likely to occur in elderly patients.
