Generic Artane is indicated as an adjunct for the relief of certain symptoms of Parkinson's disease, a brain disorder that causes muscle tremor, stiffness and weakness. However, it doesn't cures Parkinson's disease, rather minimizes and reduces the frequency of symptoms such as tremors. Trihexyphenidyl (Generic Artane) works by correcting the chemical imbalance that causes Parkinson's disease.
Generic for Artane Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Generic Artane is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Artane should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment condition
Narrow angle glaucoma
Stomach/intestinal obstructive disease

As initial therapy for Parkinson's, 1 mg of Generic Artane in tablet or elixir form may be administered the first day. The dose may then be increased by 2 mg increments at intervals of three to five days, until a total of 6 to 10 mg is given daily. The total daily dose will depend upon what is found to be the optimal level.

Some of the most serious Generic Artane side Effects include an irregular heartbeat, backache, breast tenderness, changes in appetite or weight, chest pain, confusion
constipation, decreased hearing, diarrhea, dry mouth or increased thirst.

Geriatric patients were found to be more sensitive to the effects of Generic Artane. Agitation, confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, memory loss and mental changes are more likely to occur in elderly patients.
