Indications

Seasonal allergy symptoms like sneezing, running nose and itchy water ways are the results of release of a chemical called histamine.Histamine does this by causing the blood vessels to widen and leak, nerves to itch, secretions to pour from the lining of your nose or lungs in a variety of other ways.Fexofenadine (Allegra) acts as a 'block histamine receptors' and stop histamine from working in the body.
Allegra Contraindications and Drug Interactions
Allegra is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitivity to this drug or any of its ingredients.
In case of patients who have the following diseases, it is recommended to consult the doctor regarding use of Allegra.
Kidney disease Heart disease Other chronic illness Unusual reaction to fexofenadine, terfenadine.
There are a number of medications that interact with Allegra.It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Any antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium Erythromycin Grapefruit, apple or orange juice Ketoconazole Rifampin St.john's wort
Allegra Dosage

The recommended dose of Allegra is 60 mg twice daily, or 180 mg once daily. A dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended as the starting dose in patients with decreased renal function.
Allegra Adverse Effects
Some of the most serious Allegra side Effects include chest tightness, feeling of warmth, redness of the face and neck, large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, sex organ, nervousness, rash, sleeplessness, terrifying dreams and trouble sleeping.

Allegra and Pregnancy

Allegra is known to be substantially excreted by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions to this drug may be greater in patients with impaired renal function. Because elderly patients are more likely to have decreased renal function, care should be taken in dose selection, and may be useful to monitor renal function.
