Generic Alesse is indicated for the prevention of birth control or pregnancy. Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol prevents pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucous thus making it hard for the sperm to move towards the uterus. Generic Alesse also prevents the attachment of an egg to the uterus.

Generic Alesse is contraindicated in patients, who are hypersensitive to this drug, medications that belong to this class of drugs or had an allergic reaction to it in the past.
Generic Alesse should not be taken by patients who have a history of the following ailment condition.
Angina
Bleeding or Blood-clotting disorders
Asthma
Seizures or epilepsy
There are a number of medications that interact with Generic Alesse thus may decrease the effectiveness of birth control resulting in pregnancy. It is important to take the doctor's counsel if you are taking any of the following.
Pencillin antibiotic such as Amoxicillin

To achieve maximum contraceptive effectiveness, Generic Alesse must be taken exactly as directed and at intervals not exceeding 24 hours. The dosage of Generic Alesse is one pink tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by one light-green inert tablet daily for 7 consecutive days, according to the prescribed schedule.

Some of the most serious Generic Alesse side Effects include stomach pain (severe), sudden shortness of breath, sudden loss of coordination, especially on one side of the body, swelling of the hands, feet or ankles, rapid weight gain, vision or speech problems and weakness or numbness in the arms or legs, especially on one side of the body.

Generic Alesse pass into the human milk and can change the content or lower the amount of breast milk. Hence it is recommended to stop breast-feeding while taking Generic Alesse.

Safety and efficacy of Generic Alesse are expected to be the same for postpubertal adolescents under the age of 16 and users 16 and older. Use of Generic Alesse before menarche is not indicated.

The safety and efficacy of Generic Alesse in women over 65 years of age has not been studied.
